SEARCHING FOR MODS AND
MOD INFORMATION Introduction First, if you are new here, welcome to this community of mod makers and mod users. Everyone starts out as a novice. If you are newly joining this community, it is fair that you know there are some expectations that apply to novice and experienced members alike. If you are an 'old hand' perhaps this will usefully remind you of some techniques, or point you toward some you had not considered. BEFORE you post - "where can I get this . . .?" or "problem with installation!" or "what do these messages mean?" - please look very carefully at the lists, threads, tools and techniques contained in this thread and its links, starting with this one: Welcome to the Mod forums - Read this first! - just what it said, FIRST. It contains some links to download sites and other places and sound basic directions to get you started. Search Tools There are a lot of good mod lists and other resources available, made by people who know what they are talking about. Many of them are included in the directory of lists and links at the bottom of this page. But no list can cover every mod that someone might be interested in. Inevitably, you will end up looking for a specific mod or type of mod, no matter how comprehensive the various modlists. Here are the basic tools to help you find what you are looking for:
Why go to all this trouble yourself? Well, there are lots of very talented, knowledgeable and helpful folk in the modding community who will assist a great deal but it is only fair that we all help ourselves out too. 'Enlightened self-interest' is at work here as well, as mod makers will then have more time to get on with more great creations and to help answer the more difficult questions that are harder to solve than simply finding the [Search forum] button. The other factor is that if you go searching for yourself, you are even more likely to find more of the some 5,000 plus mods that appeal to your own personal taste and style of play. And that is something that no one else can determine for you. You will also learn much more about mods than you will by being spoon fed titles and links. Finally, most everybody seems to get a 'freebie' or two, a good thing because mods can be a little daunting at first. But after a few days on the various fora - if it becomes obvious that you are asking other people to read, search and make your decisions for you - you will find that the number of helpful responses you get to your posts drops quickly toward zero. Some Lists There are many lists and sites both general and specialized that can help you in your search. One place to start is Morrowind Mythic Mods. If you are new to mods or new to Morrowind for PC, you should have a good look first at Starting Out With Mods. Another compact but excellent directory to things Morrowind is Mystara's Morrowind Links. Enjoy! This post has been edited by Ronin49: Oct 3 2004, 10:20 PM |

It would seem to be timely for this to reappear,
judging by the evening's plague of requests for mods that are easily
located. |
